Magnetic Wand

Magnetite, Fe3o4, has a relatively density of 5.2 and is easily reclaimed by magnetic separators. It is added to the coal preparation process to adjust the density of water. Coal ash is proportional to its density.

It is desirable to recover as much magnetite as possible for economic and process considerations.

The MAGNETIC WAND which houses a rare earth magnet can be inserted into a tailings sample to determine the magnetite content. This will give a very pratical indication of poor magnetite recovery.
